Probably one of my favorite assignments for this course, where I could create environments from numerous themes.

Very early color rendering of the scenes. Decided I'd rather focus on the shape, foreground, middleground, and background aspects than copying all the miniscule details.
Following my initial theme of Scify and fantasy the images are as follows:
Left: Spaceship in a hanger. Only images used to render are in the girders on top, the ship was rendered entirely by hand. Middle: Space Station, rendered by overlaying transparent images. Right: A desert citadel, with inspiration taken from the story that developed during the course of my Writing for Games: Characters course last term. Rendered almost solely using a collage of images. When it comes to character redesigning, I went with the classic Kirk + Spock Duo. While Kirk still holds his position as a Captain, I went with a different take by changing him into a more laid back, rich individual going for a trip on his boat. Part of my goal with this assignment was keeping the characters' personalities and traits intact while still portraying them in a different manner. Kirk was usually more open with his emotions, and had an aura around him that spoke of his rank. Spock on the other hand was always very stiff and felt more like a servant or aid (at the start of the series), to which he eventually grew more open.
Another bit of inspiration came from the relationship between Alfred and Bruce Wayne from the Batman story, where those two were more like close friends or family than employer and employee. I guess you could say I merged several aspects together for this. I apologize for it not being as refined as I'd have liked, simply due to time constraints. I would've preferred to create an entirely original character, but that's something that's easy to do. Going about something that already exists in another way is a perspective that hadn't occurred to me before. |
